  Despite driving through pouring rain not 20 minutes before we arrived at Ozette, the weather turned warm and sunny for us. We began our trip on a couple of miles of very slippery boardwalk which wound through a lush and moist forest. Cedar slipped and fell into the foliage beside the boardwalk once, and Ali came close a couple of times too   A couple of miles into the hike the forest opened to a boggy grassland interspersed with trees and bushes. About half a mile later the forest returned. We're not quite sure why the difference in terrain from one mile to the next, but it made things interesting   Nearing the beach we passed through an open forest with many downed trees  Green grass, uncrowded beach and sparkling water, not too shabby  When we first started, the beach was almost entirely covered in kelp. Sometimes 2 or 3 feet deep  The kelp thinned out but other things had drifted onto the beach
